Deck the Halls

I have always loved decorating for Christmas!  I have made it a tradition at our home to decorate, start decorating, on the Friday after Thanksgiving.  Since I don’t do the Black Friday fun fest I love to stay home by a warm fire and decorate the tree and house.  When my kids were young I enlisted their help to haul the myriad of boxes down from the attic and garage.  They would fight over who was going to put what special ornaments on the tree.  I have always love the traditional Christmas Tree.  I think the “Theme” trees are beautiful but I have so many special decorations that I just can’t bear to think about leaving one off.  Many are the little things the kids brought home from school or church.  There is one that I painted while I was pregnant with my first born.  That was 39 years ago.  There was originally about 20 in the set but there is only one lonely wise man left.  I have no idea what has happened to the rest of them.  I have brought back some from our various travels like an Eiffel Tower from Paris and a  Centennial commemorative flag from Oklahoma’s 100th last year.

This year I am on crutches and not feeling like doing two or three days of decorating (yes I know that is excessive) so I enlisted the help of my two oldest granddaughters to help me.  They spent the night with me on Thursday after Grandma’s dinner and I think they finally went to sleep about 2 am.  At 10 am I finally rolled them out of bed and got them started.  My hubby had brought all the boxes down from the attic and had set the tree up on Thursday night.  He just had to be in his deer stand before the sun came up! The girls are at that age, 12 & 14, where they love to be helpful and yet they are fiercely independent.  They had their own ideas on just how the decorations should go on so I sat back and just turned them loose.  They didn’t do things just as I would have but I think the final results were wonderful.  Here are a couple of pictures I snapped.

The Finished Tree!

Didn’t they do a good job?  I think I am getting that Christmas Spirit…..yep…I am definitely getting it!

THAT’S where my Christmas spirit went??? I’ve been wondering because I have none. I did do the Black Friday thing but only because some people who will remain unnamed wanted to go so I had to go help with all the stuff they couldn’t get by themselves. Ugh……crazy people!!!

Yeah, there are unnamed people around here who want to go to OKC some weekend to get their stuff. Either that or just let me do it all. Most of mine gets done on the internet. Heard you had a little break-in too.

The tree looks great and all the ornaments are arranged in a balanced fashion on the tree. By golly, I think they should trim the tree for you every year! Keep those crutches and next year you can pretend to be crippled again. ;-) )

Good idea, Di! Maybe I could rent them out to others and earn a little extra Christmas $$ moolah $$.

Beautiful! What a special time for you and the granddaughters. I too like ornaments that mean something to me. Glad you got your tree up and got to miss out on the shopping! Yay for getting the Christmas spirit!!! :)

It is special when I get to spend time with them. They are growing up too fast and soon won’t want to spend time with Nana. Tonight I went to see “Bolt” with my daughter, granddaughter and grandson. I had more fun watching my 4 yr. old grandson than watching the movie. I love these time!

Beautiful tree! Now I have the spirit too. We didn’t get to do our traditional decorating this weekend since we were away so now I can look at yours until mine is up. Thanks for sharing.

There will be a slight charge for renting my tree. ;=)

Nice! That’s a beautiful tree! Ours isn’t going to be nearly as tall, but we’re going to put it up this weekend.

I got this tree year before last at a sale. I like the tall, slender trees. Have fun this weekend.
